About

Hi! My name is Emma. I am 23 years old and I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

I am currently a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu. Where is Vanuatu, you ask? It’s a small archipelago in the South Pacific, approximately 1,500 miles northeast of Australia. This blog is the story about what happens when you transplant a city girl (me) into a developing nation. Hopefully some laughs will ensue.

I am serving as an education volunteer as a small primary school in SE Ambrym, a volcanic island in the Malampa province. My primary focus is improving the English and Bislama literary of my students whilst also making improvements to the school library and administrative functions. As someone with zero experience as a teacher or administrator, this is quite the tall order! Yet, despite all of this, I endeavor to make small but sustainable projects that will help not only my students, but all the members of my community. I might take baby steps, but I’m always moving forwards!

Be prepared for awkward (and potentially uplifting) stories, nerdy references, poor attempts at humor, my overt love of food, and somewhat artistic photos. I can promise nothing else.
